Wetapunga
deinacrida heteracantha (giant weta, Little Barrier Island Giant Weta)
Also Hemideina gigantea, Deinacrida gigantea
Body grows to 100mm. A large mottled brown weta. Females are up to 82 mm long and usually weigh over 40 g.. Historically present in the forests north of Auckland it is now found on northern off-shore islands.
